Become Proactive!
Before your spouse comes home you may want to become knowledgeable of PTSD to understand the emotional turmoil they may go through which can and will affect you. With all the fighting, killing, and frustrations of war a person can not help but come back different. Understanding the symptoms and what you can do about it will not only help, but could save lives.
The other important issue is you are the eyes and ears that the military will listen too. With this becoming a billion dollar problem (Just in 2005 the pay out was $4.3 billion dollars for PTSD issues) we all have to learn how to help get it under control.
They now estimate that 20% of all returning veterans will develop PTSD in their life time. But that’s not all! Even more will have some sort of psychological effects including depression, anxiety, anger, drug or alcohol issues.
I urge you to study this problem, and learn the different ways it can be taken care of. There are many therapists that can assist, plus many sources that the military has not approve yet. (The work I do plus many others) The truth is it’s not about being a hero, it’s about bringing our troops home whole! Study and come up with your own opinions and voice them to the politicians that can make things happen.
Get your thoughts and concerns publicly recorded and acknowledged.
Being a military family you are in the greatest position to get the word out on how to make things right. People listen to those that have been there. Keep coming back and I’ll give you information that the government wants you to know and the information that is making a difference.
